Wedding Entertainment with a Twist and Turn

As you have probably guessed I like things which are a bit different and so this blog is about a very special wedding entertainment idea. I’ve always loved fireworks and always dreamt of having them specially for me on my big day.

Recently however this has been challenge by another idea, a wedding air display. With a lot of aviation history in my family this would be perfect! Can you imagine having one or more airplanes doing a private display especially for you on your big day?!

I was really excited about the idea and have spoken to stunt flyer Mark Jefferies (http://wedding.markjefferiesairdisplays.com) who has specialist wedding and event displays. Here he is in action at the wedding of Sam and Andy, what a brilliant photo opportunity!

I can just imagine the looks on the guests faces when a stunt plane is performing and the younger guests would love it!

I would ask if the stunt flyer could film the display like this photo and you would get some unique areal shots of the wedding too! This is completely different to the traditional entertainment and will definitely be a talking point for years to come!

This is a quote from a couple who had Mark at their wedding:

“Thank you for your display yesterday, perfection, your were the talk of everyone all evening, people said they had never seen anything like that at a wedding before! It was hard to drag everyone out of the bar but I promised them it would be worth while and you did not disappoint.”

Mark has done surprise displays where the guests and often either the bride or groom have no idea what’s going to happen, they have been lured outside “for photos” only to see the airplane swooping in for the display! This would be a fabulous treat and what a surprise for everyone there!

Thanks for reading my post on wedding entertainment with twists and turns I hope you find the idea as exciting as I do, what a rush to have your own aerobatic display! I would also like to thank Mark Jefferies for allowing me to use his photos and feature him.

Simple and Effective

This week I went to a wedding which oozed stylish simplicity and elegance. Held in a marquee in the grounds of a beautiful manor house (owned by the bride and groom – I’m very jealous!) it made the perfect private wedding venue for this lovely couple!

Inspired by this elegant and simple wedding I wanted to share some ideas I have seen on how to create something beautiful around these themes.

I love these gorgeous table center pieces, which could be created with flowers from your own garden or sourced locally. Having them in simple glass jars and bottles adds to the simplicity and I think the charm.

I also loved seeing a wedding where there were lovely chairs for guests to sit on rather than chairs with covers. Whilst chair covers look great with some themes I like to see nice matching chair sets too! These can be decorated simply with home maid lacy paper (picture 1) or you can chose the colour of your chairs to match your theme.

Photos 2 and 3 are from www.melodycorporation.co.uk who specialise in event hire and have a great selection of chairs and other furniture – I particularly like the colour block stools they also hire which change colour and look amazing (although they don’t quite fit with this post otherwise I would have pictured them too!)

When it comes to wedding dresses simple and sleek are not the easiest to find, however the two Ellis Bridal gowns pictured below I like for their sleek lines and the small details which bring the dress alive.

I love the dress with the high neck lace as it creates an elegant look with the a line shape skirt which is a classic shape. Both of these dresses are Ellis Bridal, I saw them at a local bridal boutique – Hinxworth Bridal

Then of course you want to accessories, I have seen some truly stunning hair pieces and tiaras, below is one of my current favourits which has been hand made by the lovely Fiona of Enchanted Touches (www.enchantedtouches.co.uk)

This style hair band will suit lots of different hair styles for your big day so you wont be limited and it will create the special added sparkle! For something with a bit more sparkle to add to a pinned up style Fiona also creates combs and hair vines which feature fresh water pearls and Swarovski crystals.

White Wedding: Jennie and Travis

Some of my best friends live in Texas USA and it was their wedding which really inspired me to the love of all things wedding! I wanted to share their incredible Big Day with you and our experience of being there!

The bride and groom Jennie and Travis

A wonderful 10 year love story which started in school, Jennie and Travis had years of their life together which they brought beautifully to their big day. On the presents and guest book tables there were beautiful photos of the couple through the years including their engagement album and a digital photo frame which constantly showed past holidays, times with friends and family.

The ceremony was a bit different to what I’ve seen in the UK with great emphasis on family which I loved. There was 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen which made the photo op at the front of the church stunning!

One of the reasons I loved this wedding was because of how much they made the whole day about them, what they liked and who they are. They had lovely touches to the reception including a fully choreographed dance which took everyone by surprise, photos decorating the venue, chocolate covered strawberries and of course their two (yes 2) wedding cakes – one for the bride and one for the groom. The brides cake reflected the theme of the wedding and the grooms cake was an airplane which the name of the groom iced on the side!

It was all the little details which made this wedding unique and made it the perfect day for them too!

Amazing Weddings

With my work I am really lucky to get to see some truly amazing weddings. On this post I want to share with you 10 great weddings and wedding ideas I have been lucky enough to see! This list is only a short snippet of some great things  that I love and I would love to hear back from you about what you’ve seen.

1) An ice sculpture!

I recently went to a wedding where the bride and groom had their names in an ice sculpture in the middle of the buffet. I thought this was a great idea and it created a real center piece. It might seem rather extravagant but it really reflected them, they got engaged whilst on a skiing holiday and the proposal was made at the highest point on the mountain – awww!

2) The brides bouquet becoming part of the cake.

I thought this idea was fabulous, the bride had a beautiful orchid bouquet of flowers and when we got to the reception there was a simple cake decorated with the same type of orchids then instead of throwing her bouquet the bride added it to the cake display to bring it to life!

3) Home made bunting

I’m sad not to be able to show you a photo of this, at one wedding the mother and grandmother of the bride had made miles of home made bunting which decorated the whole interior of the marquee. The materials where chosen because they meant something to the couple as well as fitting with their theme. I loved the idea of how much the bunting reflected the couple and the effect it had in decoration the marquee was absolutely beautiful!

Making bunting is great fun, it requires basic sewing skills and I don’t think it matters if you don’t make it perfect so why not give it a go? I love this “How to Make a Fabric Bunting” but use your imagination as it was written as a baby shower decoration idea! – www.glorioustreats.com

4) Outdoor games for kids and adults!

This wedding was held in a marquee on a lovely farm.  The bride and groom used all the space possible by having outdoor games to keep everyone entertained. This included skittles, tug of war, giant jenga, giant chess and many more. As it got dark there were little solar powered lights lighting the paths away from the marquee which added to the atmosphere. You can hire outdoor games from companies like www.gloriousgardengames.co.uk and www.notjustforhire.com who hire out as well as selling giant games for weddings and events.

5) Drinks pegs

This idea seemed really unique, every wedding guest had a peg with their name on attached to their glass meaning no drinks got confused. This further into the night ended up with many fun and games which came out of these little pegs including “pegging” other guests. I thought this idea was brilliant to identify your drink and would be something guests would take home at the end. I can’t find any companies which sell pegs with names written on but I have found lovely mini pegs with hearts where you could write names or even attach little notes with the names. Find these on www.Etsy.com or www.HobbyCraft.co.uk even make them yourself!

6) Knitted Bride and Groom cake top.

As a person who loves knitting and crafts this was a fabulous idea and I loved it! The bride had knitted the characters herself as well as some other decorations including the bunting. They were a beautiful addition to the cake and I feel it really made it!

7) Dancing flip flops

We all like to dress up for a wedding with glam high heels but the truth be told most of us struggle to dance in these shoes. At a few weddings I have seen various ways of presenting comfy shoes like flip flops so everyone can dance the night away!

8) Wedding favors with a difference

I loved these sunglasses which were supplied for guests as part of an out door wedding, the sign is so cute and who can resist these awesome sunglasses!

9) Children’s art invites

Get your children involved in your wedding and get them designing your invites! Enchanted Touches (www.enchantedtouches.co.uk) will take your pictures along with your theme of colours or styles and create great and gorgeous invites for all your guests.

10) Themed wedding cake

An American wedding tradition is to have 2 wedding cakes, a brides themed cake and a grooms themed cake. At this particular wedding it was the grooms cake that really caught everyone’s attention. The groom is a pilot who loved flying and so his cake was made to look like one of his favorite planes! This cake designer was based in the USA but a great UK designer is Fancy Cakes by Linda, a mother and daughter team who are award winning! (www.fancycakesbylinda.co.uk)
